Third idea.

I decided to try a third idea. This time from the shell shape and as a hat .I attempted to do another felt shape from the peacock but no matter how I tried to sew it together it skewed. This seemed to be telling me that if it was causing problems going together as a smooth ,small shape then it would multiply in pieced work on a larger scale .So..... that leaves these three. Now which one do I plump for.........

Ideas at last!

Pages from my sketchbook expanding on two of the felt shapes and how they might metamorphose into something useful.I am still undecided as to whether these one of these will be used.I may go on to develop further ideas based on these and the shell shape. If anyone out there has any positive suggestions or comments I would gratefully receive them.

Still here.

No pictures today as I haven't made any more samples .I had intended to do some work but had a panic as I couldn't find my samples of the last post .I looked in all the obvious places but no they weren't to be seen .So rather than faff about I thought I'd get on with other things I am making. That done I thought to make some silk paper and guess what turned up in my silk box!I hope I'm not losing the plot.Anyway rather than start over I will leave it till Friday.
I have been doing a little research into the artists for chapter 13 though so I haven't been completely off work.I may do Giorgio Morandi as my free choice.I was introduced to his work on a painting summer school some years ago.His work is mainly still life but so beautiful, simple and subtle shapes and tones.

On the other hand I may do Laura Thomas ,a young award winning weaver who spoke to our E.G.meeting last month. She had such lovely ,innovative work.

Shapes and into 3D

And finally took some felt and hand stitched little shapes based on some of the drawings.I am starting to have ideas of what I could develop ,this may be a bag or cushions or even a hat.Corliss Miller explores some cushion ideas in her book"Machine embroidery for the Home".I also like the sculptures of Peter Randall- Page.I also looked at the catalogue for" Art of the Stitch "and some of the scholar work.Something will click eventually but I need to play some more before firming up an idea.

Next I began to think how shapes could be used for three dimensional objects.

These are some fairly quick line drawings of shapes that were either around or came from looking through my sketchbook.
