Completed cushions.

All three of my "humbugs" pictured together.

Last one ,largest of all, made from embellished and stitched felt fastened with a zip.Felted and beaded balls are attached to central "fringe"

This is the second, most square cushion, fastened with covered buttons I found at Scrapstore and hand embroidered.

This is the smallest of the cushions seen from different angles. It is fastened with velcro.

Storage of work etc.

Almost there with this unit just have to calculate time and costings and put finishing touches to cushions, add felt balls and stuff them before taking final photos.

Embellishing.

I have spent a few hours this morning preparing this piece of fabric. It is a piece of white felt overlaid with bondaweb painted with animal patterns then embellished with wool tops, fancy yarns, scrim, organza and snippets of my dyed and printed fabrics.I have plans to do a black piece too.I then want to sew them together and cut and repiece to make my third "humbug".I will do some free embroidery to add some stitching before I cut them up.I may make some felt balls to enclose in the seams or to use as fastenings.

Friday.

Have spent most of today sewing, piecing, cutting swearing..... but have put together what pass for two "humbugs"I used up most of my fabrics to do them.I have some embellished pieces still intact and may add to these to make a third "humbug".I could use the scraps to embellish onto felt as they would create some tone. Not brilliant photos as they need to be stuffed to hold their shape.

Bah humbug!

The shapes were difficult to cut and fold in paper but I think they give a vague idea of how the actual piece might look.Of course there will be seam treatments.inserts and fastenings to the real thing.

I drew some variations on the shape then made them in some felt.Next I went on to think about how I might use the ideas for fabrics gleaned in this unit. What follows are the pages in my sketchbook to detail these thoughts.

After my tutorial at Summer school I have taken the idea of making my shape simpler and allowing the fabrics to speak for the piece. With this in mind I have been playing with Sian's suggested "humbug".

Last prep for Urchfont.

These last are the hat which is going to be quite a feat to do properly.I'll have to test my technical and making skills to acheive this.I do want to do something which is more challenging than the normal though I'll probably regret saying that!

These are of the bag, based loosely on my frog drawing .I think it needs to be a tad smaller than this but I am looking forward to talking to others and sharing work and ideas, as lovely as studying with Distant Stitch is it tends to feel rather lonely.I am relishing the idea of contact with others and being able to bounce ideas around.

Having had contact with Sian I decided to at least try to create full-size mock-ups of my ideas to take with me to Summer school. This morning ,after a sluggish start I put two together in some reasonably robust paper.
