Painted Pomp

I have just been to see this exhibition in the Holburne Museum Bath. The portraits are stunning ,but for the depiction of the textiles at the time.I was really interested in the other items accompanying the paintings, examples of "punto in aria " lace ,wonderful embroidered kid gloves and pierced fan.I am always disappointed in the range of postcards available as they never focus on the small things.I took a little sketchbook but it was quite dim and difficult to see detail . I was lent a pencil as my fineliner wasn't allowed! There was a shirt with embroidered blackwork ,so good for anyone doing Module 2.I think it runs until May if you care to visit.

Yes, always disappointing that there is no guide book too! and the book on the portraits although beautiful was very expensive. pleased you enjoyed it.

I'm not usually interested in costume but this exhibition sounds good. Thankyou for your kind comment on my blog post. If I am brave enough I'll bring my book for Show and Tell at our next meeting.
